Anxiety Therapy for Adults and Children

Anxiety sucks the fun out of life, I help you reclaim peace and joy.

I work with adults and children who have become stuck in overthinking, intense fear and stress. My clients often want to reach certain goals, like having more friends, doing well in school or making a career shift, yet their fear gets in the way. They struggle with wanting to do everything well and make everyone happy. When something inevitably doesn’t go perfectly, they can have strong emotional reactions of panic, shame and frustration.

Here are some common struggles of people with anxiety:

  • Overthinking and overworking

  • Difficulty making decisions

  • Constantly worrying about the future

  • Negative thoughts about oneself

  • Procrastination

  • Avoiding situations they might otherwise enjoy because of fear

  • Getting irritable or angry easily

These difficulties prevent them from fully living their lives with confidence and joy.

Adult anxiety

The adults I work with are usually doing a lot in their home life, work life, social life, family life, etc. They are able to accomplish so much and have so many plates spinning that other people may not even realize they are struggling. On the outside they may look like they have everything together and are “doing it all” but on the inside they feel like they’re falling apart.

My clients are constantly looking for problems to solve and feel like they need to be in control of everything in order to be safe. They have a harsh inner critic that points out where they are falling short. They feel stuck and overwhelmed and are missing the enjoyment and fun that they used to have in life. Right now things feel dull, gray and steeped in stress and dread.

Therapy helps you to identify what is triggering your anxiety and how to manage those triggers so that your feelings are less intense. We work on developing coping skills to help you learn how to relax your body more regularly so that your baseline stress levels stay low. We also help you develop self-compassion and self-awareness so that you are able to notice which thinking patterns are helpful and unhelpful to your goals.

Whether your deal with generalized anxiety, social anxiety or performance anxiety, therapy can help you be more flexible, confident and enjoy life again. You deserve to wake up excited about life instead of afraid of what the day will bring.

Child anxiety

It can be scary to see your child change from being carefree and full of life, to becoming fearful and avoidant. Anxiety can cause children to have difficulty with school, test taking, socializing with peers, separation from caregivers, and more.

Children’s behavior is form of communication and if they can’t find the words to express how they feel, they express their emotions through their behavior. If you have seen your child’s behavior change recently and recognize some of the symptoms below, your child may be struggling with anxiety:

  • Intense worry

  • Fear about something bad happening

  • Irritability

  • Difficulty sleeping

  • Stomachaches or headaches when certain situations arise (such as going to school)

  • Perfectionism (Difficulty with mistakes, unrealistic expectations)

  • Restlessness

  • Reassurance-seeking (Constantly checking in with you to make sure things are safe)

  • Compulsive behaviors (Things a child feels like they have to do in order to prevent something bad from happening.)

The good news is that there are many evidence-based treatments for child anxiety that are effective. I primarily use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy with children who struggle with anxiety. I am committed to working with children and their families to help them learn to manage their emotions and experience more joy and fun again.
